The main entrance is off the A618 between Walesbar and Killamarsh, easily accessed from the A57 ring road. The park consists of four lakes and one pond, all easy to view, set within grazing pasture and scrubland. The main gates open at 8am and a £3 parking charge is levied at weekends throughout the year, and on weekdays between May and September, although free pedestrian access can be made via several footpaths. Meadowgate Lake, situated on the left of the entrance road several hundred yards beyond the gates, is designated as a nature reserve, and is the main centre of attention for birdwatchers.
