Site Details
A stocked fishing and shooting lake 6 miles north of Bury St Edmunds. The northeasterly end of the waterbody (Livermere Lake, TL882715) is mud-fringed, open and productive for waders, gulls, ducks, etc. The southern section of the lake (Ampton Water, TL871709) is less productive, being narrow, surrounded by woodland and heavily stocked with Mallards.

E from A134 c.5 miles N of Bury St Edmunds, then on minor road signposted to Great Livermere. Access to Livermere Lake is via public footpath from Great Livermere.Parking
Limited parking near telephone box or along track towards church.Key Areas / Routes
Walk west through the large gateway 'Private road - public footpath only' towards the lake. View Livermere Lake from the bridge or path that skirts the southeast edge of this part of the lake. Viewing Ampton Water, the southern section of the lake, is more difficult (and less rewarding) but can be achieved by following the footpath west for 800m from the bridge, then turning south onto a second footpath, which leads to a second bridge.Site Photographs
