Site Details

At 893m (2930 ft) Cross Fell is the highest point in the Pennines, and the highest point in England outside of the Lake District. The ascent is usually made from Dufton, Blencarn or Kirkland to the west, a walk of at least 3 miles (and an ascent of over 2000 feet). The summit plateau is featureless, can be very windy, and is best avoided in poor weather.

Closer vehicular access may be possible by driving from Knock partway up the access road to the radar installation on Great Dun Fell, but to reach Cross Fell summit will still require a walk of a couple of miles over Great and Little Dun Fell.
