Site Details
Flamborough Head is a large promontory jutting out 6 miles into the North Sea. The geographical position of the Head ensures that it is arguably the best seawatching location in Britain, rivalled perhaps only by some of the Cornish sites. The Head also acts as a magnet for migrants, and the numerous areas of cover frequently yield rare and scarce migrants. Migrants can turn up anywhere on the Head, though some sites habitually attract the quality birds.

From Bridlington look for signs to Flamborough and the B1255. From Flamborough village continue east on the B1259 to the lighthouse car park.Parking
There are car parks at the lighthouse, North Landing and Thornwick Bay, plus others at South landing and Danes Dyke.Key Areas / Routes
Migrants can turn up anywhwere on the Head, though some sites habitually attract the quality birds. The Bay Brambles just to the north of the lighthouse are worth a look under fresh fall conditions TA255707, as are the gardens on by the car park (but respect the privacy of the residents). Old Fall Hedge and Old Fall Wood have an impeccable pedigree for rarities TA248699 and a footpath runs alongside the hedge from the B1259 to the cliff path; the roadside pool beside the B1259 also attracts migrants. The private golf course just to the north of the lighthouse car park can be productive early morning TA252710 and is viewable from the cliff path. Other areas also regularly attract migrants. The well-vegetated ravine at South Landing can entertain birders for a whole day TA231693, as can the southern end of Danes Dyke TA215694 - most birders concentrate on the extreme southern section, but the northern end of Danes Dyke has much potential and is underwatched. Other areas include North Landing TA239720 and nearby Thornwick Bay. During a summer visit the seabirds on Breil Nook near North Landing are notable TA246719.Site Photographs
