Site Details

The beach at Carrowmore Quay often holds small numbers of waders such as Sanderling and Dunlin in the autumn. Most tend to congregate at the Bunowen River outflow, at the east end of the beach, where they roost among the rocks. A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was found here in September 2011, and there is no doubt potential for further surprises.

Directions

The beach at Carrowmore Quay can be approached from two directions. For the eastern end of the beach, take the minor road north from the crossroads in Louisburgh town centre. However, note that there is no parking available here and it is recommended that one uses the large car park at the western end of the beach (L797814) to explore the area.
