Limpkin (Aramus guarauna) is the only surviving member of the family, though fossils of other extinct species of Aramidae have been found in the Americas. Limpkins resemble ibises, with long, heavy, down-curved bills, long legs and drab brownish plumage. The species is found in freshwater marshes, reedbeds and mangroves from Florida to central South America.
