Site Details
Lydiate offers some good birding extending South from Sefton across the South West Lancashire mosslands to Altcar in the North. The area is essentially flat arable famland with some pasture and set-aside adding to the mix. Year round this is an imortant area for Barn Owl and the set-aside areas provide suitable hunting for various raptor migrants such as Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier and Short Eared Owls. Large flocks of Pinkfooted Geese are ever present during winter months together with substantial numbers of Lapwing, Golden Plover and Curlew. Common Buzzard are recently established and Peregrine can be seen on a regular basis.
