Police appeal after dogs attack young seal in Aberdeenshire
An attack on a seal pup at an Aberdeenshire nature reserve by two dogs has prompted a police appeal for information.
The incident is believed to have occurred on 5 January at Forvie Nature Reserve at Newburgh, when the two dogs were seen to attack the pup near a haul-out site at 11.45 am.
The seal was attached by two dogs (Jim Mountain).
A concerned member of the public contacted the police and now officers are investigating the incident. Witnesses are being sought and police in Ellon are keen to speak to a man walking a Labrador in the area.
Wildlife and environmental crime officer, PC Hannah Corbett, said: "We are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch. In particular we are looking to trace a man who was in the area walking his elderly chocolate Labrador, and who may have witnessed this incident."
