Cirl Bunting breeds in Belgium for first time in 60 years
Cirl Bunting has bred in Belgium for the first time in six decades.
According to Birding Belgium, a singing male was discovered near the village of Roly in Namur province, in the south of the country, on 3 May.
Cirl Bunting has bred in Belgium this year for the first time since 1962 (Romano Da Costa).
This bird stayed in the area for several weeks, with a further two males discovered in the area in late June. Soon after this, a fledged juvenile was seen accompanying a female on private property near the village.
The species last bred in Belgium in 1962, with Belgian conservationists welcoming the return of the species after a 60-year hiatus.
