I have been watching a pair of Kestrels with my birding friend Ivan Ellison. We have witnessed them mating over the course of several days. Given the time of year this is not a good stratergy for successful breeding. On this occasion the light was poor and the female flew onto a spindly branch. To get enough pixels on the bird I put on a 2X converter which brought my shutter speed down to 1/125Sec. Suddenly and unexpectedly the male bird came in to mate and my heart dropped knowing that with all the action I will get very soft shots at such a low shutter speed and long focal length. Of all the shots I took I was relieved that 2 came out acceptably sharp. The image is full frame.
