Tony Disley comments: "The overall upperpart colour is very dull greyish looking with no obvious brown tones (Water Pipit should show obvious brown upperparts), the prominent eye ring and lack of obvious supercilium is a good Rock Pipit feature, the base colour of the underparts is a yellowish buff with some pink on breast (should be whitish underparts on Water Pipit with pink on breast), also the streaking along the flanks is quite diffuse and broad (should be thinner on Water Pipit)." On the beach by the lighthouse at Barns Ness; Sony PC9E and Swarovski AT80HD scope.
