The aim of the project was to promote the conservation of the Critically Endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper, the population of which is now less than 200 pairs. Click below to view the video.
Each year, this small wader migrates from the breeding grounds at Siberia, Russia, down to winter in South-East Asia. The main threats it faces are intertidal habitat loss throughout its migratory and wintering ranges and trapping.
The project involved 500 children and helpers from 12 areas and eight countries (Russia, Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Bangladesh). Children helped colour the animation picture by picture. About 1,200 pictures were coloured.
The project was organized by the China Programme of BirdLife International/Hong KongBird Watching Society and was sponsored by Eric Hosking Trust.
