Penduline tits are not true tits (Paridae) but are vaguely similar in appearance and share their namesakes' agile foraging habits. Their common name comes from their gourd-like nests that hang like pendulums from trees. Remizids are found in Europe, Asia and Africa, with one species (Verdin, Auriparus flaviceps) in North America. Eurasian Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus) is the only family representative found in Britain and Ireland, and then only as a vagrant.
