A Tawny Owl has been rescued after it was found hanging from a tree having become tangled up in discarded fishing line.

The Tawny Owl before it was freed (Mark Chidwick).

The bird was found on Saturday [11 December] morning at a complex of angling lakes near Fordwich in Kent. Thankfully birder Mark Chidwick was fishing at the site and was alerted to the bird's predicament.

He, along with two others, carefully freed the owl, which flew off happily after the incident, apparently in good health. Afterwards Mark contacted the angling club with regards to the threats to wildlife that discarded line can have, but has yet to receive a reply.
