Osprey platform felled with chainsaw

North Wales Wildlife Trust (NWWT) has revealed this morning [1 May 2021] that its osprey platform at Llyn Brenig, south-west of Denbigh, was felled overnight by a chainsaw.

NWWT tweeted: "Brenig Osprey Project partners woke up this morning to the worst possible news.

"Last night, at 9.42 pm, someone took a chainsaw to the osprey nest and felled it – please, please be kind to staff this weekend as we work out how to respond to this horrific act of vandalism."

Up to three Western Ospreys have been visiting the platform in recent days, including a settled pair of three-year-old Scottish birds that were breeding for the first time. Nesting had just begun, with the first egg laid at 4.15 pm on 29 April. The news is a huge blow to the project at such a crucial time in the season.
