This is the Female Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) and mate to yesterday's upload. I was hoping that the babies would fly before I left the Cape but unfortunately the ending was not happy. My friend saw the birds encouraging the reluctant young to leave the nestbox but sadly it didn't happen. The next day she found one dead chick in the box and no sign of the others or the parents. Interestingly she had been watching out for male House Sparrows who were threatening the brood. Apparently, if they get the chance, they enter the nestbox and peck the babies to death!
