This is an unusual Little egret, and had me (and others) fooled. This is the bird that was on the Allen pool, and at first glance, looks like a juvenile Cattle egret. But one thing I didn't take note of (regrettably) was how it was holding its body - more lengthways than upright as an example. Its feeding behaviour was very different from little egrets I've seen over 20 years, but I never expected that to fool me with it's appearance. At least I'll be looking more "beneath the surface" on anything that looks "out of the ordinary" and is all part and parcel of learning through experience.
