We have historically had one species of Hummingbird, the Rufous, that is migratory, arriving about late March and gone south by the end of August. In the last few decades our area, Vancouver Canada, has been populated from the south by Anna's Humming birds, a sedentary species that does not migrate. Hummingbirds are mostly a tropical species with low temperature energy limits. The Anna's occasionally gets caught in colder weather and it is quite surprising to see them in the snow. They seem to survive down to about -7'C which is about our coldest morning most winters. We use feeders with heaters and it is surprising to see these tiny birds coming for a drink at -8'C.
