Clearly I have submitted this picture for atmosphere not image quality! I was in place to count incoming roosting Whimbrel but also aware that the backdrop was developing beautifully and that I might catch the Whimbrel reflected in the water with the distant views of Irish Sea wind turbines and an outline of the Isle of Man. I got plenty of photos of incoming small groups. However, the birds had settled and incoming birds had stopped when the Common Buzzard set the scene in motion! In 36 years of watching this roost I have never seen them flushed so late in the evening! The Common Buzzard must also have been enjoying the moment!
