In the early hours of Sunday morning 22nd February one or two fourth floor residents were woken by a loud thump on the roof. There was nothing to be seen but shortly after he heard another noise in the roadway just outside the lobby window. A large, owl had just flown down from the roof and was sitting stunned on the ground with its wings spread-owled. Steve went to investigate but the owl flew up to a nearby ground floor window ledge where it remained for the next hour, quietly recuperating. While Steve put in a call to the RSPCA, four tourists walking inanely and lost along the service road, stopped to photograph the bird, got right up close to it and did a silly bird-dance to amuse themselves, whereupon the bird, obviously not amused by their antics but somewhat disturbed, flew up to the first floor balcony of flat 125. Your reporter managed to catch the photo which appeared on the noticeboards, as did several other residents. The man from the RSPCA said that if undisturbed the owl would probably stay there all day long, have a nap with one eye closed, then fly off when it got dark. In fact at dusk it flew back onto the roof and stayed there for at least another twenty four hours. By Monday afternoon it was still there but eventually made a safe departure. We can only deduce that the owl happened to fly off course into this area and it crashed into railings or some other non-solid item on the roof
