Directions
From Lyndhurst, take A35 towards Christchurch for 2 1/2 miles. Turn right onto ornamental drive. Deer observatory is 2 miles further on, but numerous spots en route for birdwatching.Access
Mostly open, but some fenced off areas.Parking
Free parking at many sites.Facilities
Car park areas (free), toilets at deer observatory car park.Key Areas / Routes
From deer observatory car park, turn left towards Ringwood. There are tall pine trees on right-hand side before the war memorial (good for Crossbill, Hawfinch); farther on is open forest (Dartford Warbler, Buzzard, etc.) then one mile onwards is another heathland spot good for Great Grey Shrike in winter. Nearby Holmhill Inclosure is good for Crossbill; also Wood Warbler and Lesser-spotted Woodpecker.Did you know that you can submit photographs to be included in this sites image gallery?
