The Scottish Ornithologists' Club (SOC) is set to host a spring art exhibition at its Aberlady headquarters in Lothian, with the event opening on Wednesday 17 April.

'Nature Re-imagined' by Paul Bartlett, Barbara Franc and Jo Ruth presents the work of the trio of artists who apply unusual media to the subject of wildlife: collages by Bartlett, recycled sculptures by Franc and stencil paintings and prints by Ruth. The results are imaginative depictions of animals and their habitats that, for all the fun they deliver, are also keenly observed.

'Avocets on a receding tide' by Jo Ruth.

Paul Bartlett uses collage to recapture in the studio the thrilling experience of encountering wildlife in remote and beautiful places.

Barbara Franc is a London-based artist who has always been fascinated by the sculptural forms of animals. She developed her own techniques to create sculptures from unusual materials such as tins, foils and textiles, that are either found or discarded.

Jo Ruth is based in York and her inspiration comes from her observations of birds in and around the city. Experiments with silkscreen printing sparked her journey into stencil making then combining painting and printmaking techniques to create fresh and contemporary interpretations of nature.

The exhibition is free to enter and runs until 2 June. Opening hours are 10 am-5 pm from Wednesday-Sunday. Getting to the SOC's headquarters at Waterston House (EH32 0PY) is easy with a variety of road, rail and bus routes available.
