Site Details
Rutland Water is one of the largest reservoirs in Britain with an area of some 3,100 acres. The main birdwatching centres are the Egleton and Lyndon Reserves. The British Birdwatching Fair is held on the Egleton Reserve in mid-August each year.

Directions
Rutland Water is 1 mile southeast of Oakham and can be reached from the A1 by taking the A606 to the west of Stamford, or it can be accessed from the A6003 to the north of Uppingham. The Egleton Reserve and Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre is accessed from 1 mile south of Oakham by following the road to Egleton and the reserve is well signposted. The Lyndon Reserve can be reached by heading south from Oakham for 2 miles along the A6003 and heading east to Manton and then north just after the village.Access
Most of Rutland Water can be viewed at any time with free access. The Egleton Reserve is open between 09:00 and 17:00 and access is by permit only for non-members of the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust and these can be purchased from the Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre. Access to the Lyndon Reserve is also by permit only for non-LRWT members and can be purchased from the centre. The reserve is open between 10:00 and 16:00 (except Mondays) between November and April.Parking

Toilets and car parks; local villages for food, etc. There are a number of hides at the Egleton Reserve and Lyndon Reserve. There are also several trails and ample parking facilities around the reservoir and reserves.Key Areas / Routes
The main areas are the Egleton Reserve and Lyndon Reserve. Any other part of the reservoir can attract birds too. These include areas such as the South Arm with car parks at Edith Weston. There is a car park near the Dam, accessed from the A606 and the North Arm and North Shore also attract birds.Site Photographs
