Sagittariidae is a monotypic family, containing one genus (Sagittarius), which in turn contains only one species (Sagittarius serpentarius). Secretarybird is a large, long-legged, mostly terrestrial bird of prey found in the grassland and savannah of sub-Saharan Africa. It hunts its prey on foot, catching insects and small to medium-sized vertebrates, which are often killed by aggressive stamping with the feet. Although snakes are among prey items taken, their importance in the diet is somewhat exaggerated.
