Wallcreeper (Tichodroma muraria) is the only member of its genus and family, though it is closely related to the nuthatches (Sittidae). It is a striking bird with long bill, greyish body plumage and rounded wings with crimson wing coverts. In summer it frequents rock faces in the high mountains or Europe and Asia but in winter it sometimes retreats to lower altitudes and has been found in southern England and on the continental coast of the English Channel.
