Kagu (Rhynochetos jubatus), the sole extant member of the Rhynochetidae family, is a near-flightless insectivore with grey plumage and bright red legs and is endemic to the island of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It has unique "nasal corns", structures covering its nostrils that may prevent the animal from inhaling soil and leaf litter while probing for food on the forest floor.
