Site Details

The Long Nanny is a burn with its outlet midway along Beadnell Bay in the care of the National Trust. It is an area of great natural beauty and popular with visitors. The Long Nanny is particularly important for its mainland tern colonies.

Directions

The village of High Newton is clearly signposted to the east of the junction of the B1339 and B1340 just north of Embleton. In High Newton the road splits, the northerly branch leads to Newton Links House and the car park.

Access

Normally unrestricted but from May to mid-August the beach is wardened and partially cordoned off to protect the tern colonies.

Parking

There is a public car park at Newton Links House to the south. £1.20 all day. Charges are normally relaxed from Oct to April.
