Site Details
Sea-cliffs and mixed farmland (mainly pasture) with gardens and scrub, overlooking Tramore Bay. The most productive Waterford site for migrant and vagrant landbirds, which have included Scops Owl, Yellow Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Northern Parula, Iberian Chiffchaff and Western Bonelli's Warbler. Also a good seawatch point, though less so than Helvick Head. Very underwatched, with usually no more than a handful of birders working the site at weekends and for a few full weeks at migration times.

Directions
From Dunmore East, follow coast road west to Ballymacaw, then coastwards from there for c.3 km, left turn at cross roads, just after Tramore Backstrand come into view. From Tramore town, Brownstown Head is 14 km to the east - follow narrow road that skirts Tramore Backstrand, keep right at Murphy's Bar at Clohernagh inlet, veer right after Corbally church and proceed southwest along straight road to the Head. From Waterford city, take Airport road south, turn left at T-junction beyond Airport, then right at Murphy's Bar as described.Access
Gardens and most hedgerows can be viewed can be viewed from main laneways or roads (please do not enter private gardens). Access to fields and cliffs (by birders, fishermen and walkers) is generally tolerated by local landowners, but please keep to field margins or obvious tracksParking
At southwest end of main road, park near old farm buildings and explore on foot from there. Avoid blocking gates. Further back along the head, park along side of main road and explore side-tracks on foot.Key Areas / Routes
Gardens (private but the main ones are viewable from roadside), especially at south end of main road (X620985), and at end of narrow tracks west (X625994) and east (X628995) from base of headland. Hedgerows along lane and field edges (please do not damage hedges or gates), including main lane (X617984). Wooded valley/glen along stream at east side of head (Coolum area, X630990), via east track. Tip of headland (X612977), by towers or further east, for seawatching.
