Site Details

Lowland peat bog and heath, currently in a state of regeneration after much milling, resulting in many expanses of open flooded peat. This combined with a span of gravel pits down the east side provide habitat for a good variety of species. Adjecent fields also attract owls, harriers and a most typical farmland birds.

Directions

Easiest access is along the A614 south of Thorne. Turn off east either down Remple Lane, the Hollingbirdge Lane in Hatfield Woodhouse and follow the road as it winds round to the English Nature Car Park, or just south of the Tyrham Hall Hotel and Fishing Ponds turn east along the track signed Hatfield Moors English Nature.

Access

Stick to the route described on various information sites. Please avoid walking across any areas of open peat; instead scan from the edges of the scrub. Also, please avoid walking beyond the green gate along Lindholme Bank Road. Access is only along the east and south side, but the best variety of habitat is accessible here anyway.
Access arrangements are currently being changed by English Nature, at each car park are signs with the latest information.

Parking

Park either at Tyrham Hall Hotel or at the English Nature car park down Hollingbridge Lane or the English Nature Car Park off the A614 south of Tyrham Hall Fishing Ponds. (due to open late 2005).

Facilities

None. Café available at Tyrham Hall Hotel at weekend and on busy fishing days.
