Site Details

Blashford Lakes are a series of former gravel pits now used for public water supply, recreation and conservation. The pits comprise: Mockbeggar Lake North SU157090, Mockbeggar Lake South SU157085, Ibsley Water SU152089, Spinnaker Lake SU157075; Snails Lake SU153072; Ivy Lake SU152076; Ellingham Lake SU148077; Morley Lakes SU145073; Kingfisher Lakes SU154064; Linbrook Lake SU159071; Poulner Lake SU159068. The main viewing area is at SU160092.

Directions

North from Ringwood on the A338 and turn east at Blashford or Ellingham Cross. For Mockbeggar Lake North turn off the A338 and head east along Mockbeggar and the road south to Moyles Court; the lake can be viewed from along this road. For Mockbeggar Lake South, turn off the A338 at Ellingham Cross and head east to Moyles Court and view from the side of the road after half a mile. Ibsley Water is viewed from the same road.

Access

A number of public footpaths allow walking around the site. The Avon Valley long distance footpath skirts the eastern edge of Blashford Lakes.

Parking

There is a car park for 40 cars.

Facilities

A fully equipped study centre has been built for use by schools and other educational groups. A full programme of guided walks and visits to the bird hide is available. Education visits to the study centre are available by arrangement with the warden. Toilets are available in the centre. There are seven hides.
