Site Details

One of the large, deep brick pits that characterise the landscape on the south side of Peterborough, CEGB Reservoir hosts small numbers of wildfowl in winter although is most famous for its gull roost. Numbers are typically greatest in winter (when tens of thousands of birds may be seen), although birds use the site all year round.

Directions

Access to the site is difficult. The best solution is to park on Phorpres Way at TL184955 then walk south along the A15 to the first roundabout. Here, a gateway leading through a small wood should be obvious on the left-hand side. Walk through here to obtain views of the reservoir from the north end. Alternatively, another gateway by the A15 at TL184949 offers room for one car to park. From here, walk to the southwest edge of the reservoir to view. A muddy path around the west side of the reservoir can be used, although wellingtons are recommended.
