Site Details

Slains pool is a flooded field that the farmer has given up on trying to drain! It's really a complex of flooded fields and pools that form during wet spells and often hold waders on the Slains Estate. There are two main pools:

Slains Main Pool (NK042313) has hosted many spring Garganey plus Temminck's Stints, American Wigeon etc. The area on the opposite side of the A975 often floods and had a White-rumped Sandpiper on it a few autumns ago.

Slains Back Pool (unofficial name!) (NK044311) had 2 Pectoral Sandpipers on it around the time of the Short-billed Dowitcher at Rosehearty.

There are other pools in the area which hold waders occasionally.
