Key Areas / Routes

The lakes are by far the most productive site with regular Goosander in the winter months (maximum count of 44 in January 2001) and good gull numbers with a Ring-billed Gull in the winter of 2000 and the occasional Mediterranean Gull. Raptors are occasionally seen flying over including Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Hobby with spring and autumn records of Honey Buzzard and Goshawk. All three species of woodpecker have been recorded although Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is now rare. The scrub in the south-west corner is good for Nightingale.
