Site Details
The University campus is set in 200 acres of parkland with three lakes running south-west/north-east on the eastern half of the park (TM030240 to TM032242). Typical parkland dominated by deciduous trees and grassland, scrub in the north-west (TM026243)and south-west corners (TM026235), and a large sports field to the east-south-east (TM034239).

Directions
From London on the A12 take the exit marked Colchester Central. From Ipswich on the A12 take the exit marked Colchester. When in Colchester take the A133 to Clacton, take the first right towards Wivenhoe and then the first right again after the first set of traffic lights. The University visitors' car park can be found on the first right and is the second car park on the left (TM031239). Buses from Colchester North train Station (#78 and 78A) and (#74, 75, 77, 78 78a) from Colchester Bus Station.Parking
The University visitors' car park operates a pay and display. Parking spaces can be difficult to find in working hours especially during term time. WHEEL-CLAMPING IN OPERATION FOR ILLEGALLY PARKED CARS.Facilities

The lakes are by far the most productive site with regular Goosander in the winter months (maximum count of 44 in January 2001) and good gull numbers with a Ring-billed Gull in the winter of 2000 and the occasional Mediterranean Gull. Raptors are occasionally seen flying over including Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Hobby with spring and autumn records of Honey Buzzard and Goshawk. All three species of woodpecker have been recorded although Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is now rare.
