Site Details
Watton Nature Reserve is owned by the Environment Agency and is jointly managed with the Hull Valley Wildlife Group. It was a joint initiative between the EA and HVWG to transform the old "Borrow Pits" (i.e. clay was "borrowed" to strengthen the River Hull flood banks) into a local Reserve - and it has been a great success. It is a Nature Reserve in its own right and should not be confused with TLNR. It is situated adjacent to the south west end of TLNR - both reserves are separated by Barmston Drain which runs north - south.Birding Sites in the Watton NR Area

Watton NR has its own hide located at the southern end which can be approached along the public footpath which runs from the small car park at Wilfholme - turn off the A164 just south of the Tophill Low (if heading north from Beverley) and drive east for about four miles until you reach the car park at Wilfholme. Observers can park there for free and take the short walk north to the reserve - keep to the west side of Barmston Drain which runs parallel with the River Hull - visitors can thus avoid paying the entrance fee to TLNR.Key Areas / Routes
