Site Details
A large, reed-fringed freshwater lough on the southeast side of Brandon Bay. In winter, good numbers of wildfowl can be found here, including a regular flock of Scaup. Note that numbers can vary due to disturbance and/or shooting. Rarities include Surf Scoter, Lesser Scaup and regular Ring-necked Ducks. Due to the lough's exposed nature, a calm day is essential for the decent views.

The lake is best viewed from the small pier at the east end (Q613141), accessed via the minor road just west of Castlegregory. Note that, after periods of heavy rain, the pier may be submerged.Site Photographs
