Directions
By Road:Saltholme is 10 minutes from the A19; turn east off the A19 north of Stockton along the A689. After half a mile, take the A1185; in 4 miles join the A178 at a mini roundabout and take the third exit. The reserve entrance is 250 metres on the right-hand side. From Middlesbrough centre, the site can be accessed via the Transporter Bridge (every 15 minutes weekdays 7 am-8 pm, Saturday 11 am-5.50 pm, Sunday 2 pm- 5.30 pm, cost £1.20 each way). Saltholme is 1.5 miles from the bridge along the A178 north from Port Clarence.
By Bus:
The nearest bus stop is outside the entrance to Saltholme, on the Seaton Carew Road. The Number 1 stops here and is run by Stagecoach in Hartlepool. The other main stops include High Tunstall - Throston on Grange - Hartlepool Town Centre - Seaton Carew - Port Clarence - Middlesbrough Bus Station. During peak hours it runs every half hour, every day of the week
Access
The trails are accessible; however, the trail opening later in the summer 2009 which is furthest from the Centre may cause difficulties as it is on a slight incline. Throughout the reserve footpaths have been constructed from crushed stone. This provides a relatively even and firm surface. The areas off the footpaths provided are uneven terrain.The Wildlife Watch Point is a five-minute walk from the Centre. The Paddy's Pool Hide is a 10-minute walk from the Centre and Saltholme Pools Hide is a 20-minute walk from the Centre. Please note that currently there is no facility for seating immediately adjacent to the path to Saltholme Pools Hide and also that there is a 100-metre stretch of path that is rather stony. Each of the buildings is accessible by wheelchair, but those further away from the Centre (Paddy's Pool Hide and Saltholme Pools hide) may not be suitable for wheelchair users without assistance. There are a small number of picnic tables, each of which is accessible by wheelchair.
The Haverton Viewpoint, Wildflower Walk and Cycle Path from Port Clarence are not open yet but will hopefully be accessible from mid-summer 2009.
Parking
100 car spaces (plus overflow), Coach parking and 6 disabled permit holder spaces. Free parking until 31st March. From 1st April first hour on site free then £3 per car for non-RSPB members and free for members.Facilities

Wildlife Watchpoint Hide: a very accessible hide 5 minutes walk from the Visitor Centre with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing all ages to enjoy our developing Reedbed and Wader Scrape.
Paddy's Pool Hide: 10 minutes' walk from the Visitor Centre will have you in Paddy's Pool Hide. In the summer you will be greeted by the raucous colony of Common Terns which you can watch in comfort from inside. In the winter the wet grassland will be host to several thousand Lapwing and Golden Plover, tempting the occasional Peregrine to show itself.
Saltholme Pools Hide: the tardis hide of the reserve. Visible from the road, this hide sits discreetly within the reserve's Special Protection Area (an internationally designated area protected for its rare and vulnerable birds) and offers 270 degrees of viewing.
