Site Details
There are five main reservoirs of varying sizes owned by Northumbrian Water and situated on the B6318 (Military Road) some 10 miles west of Newcastle at approx. 350 feet above sea level. To the north of the B6318 is the Great Northern Res. To the south of it are the Western Res, Northern Res and Lower Res where fishing by permit is allowed. The Great Southern Res cannot be viewed from public roads. The surrounding fields provide a mixture of rough pasture, stubble, ploughed and fallow land.

From Newcastle drive west on the A69(T), leave at the junction for Heddon on the Wall and join the B6318. A total distance of some 10 miles. From the west you have various options depending on your starting point, simply, head for the Military Road. There is no public transport.Access
The reservoirs are private and there is no public access.Parking
The B6309 south towards Stocksfield provides safe parking and views of the Northern, Western and Lower Reservoirs. Do not attempt to park on the Military Road, it is dangerous.Facilities

(b) The Whittle Dene Watercourse and small reservoir, viewed from the B6309 (north) (c) The Northern, Western and Lower, viewed from the B6309 (south). (d) Small pond and surrounding fields, hedges and mature pines west of the Western Reservoir; use the good public footpath from Welton to B6318. (e) Aqueduct running east from the Water Treatment Works towards North Dunslawholm Farm.
