Site Details
World-famous site situated on the upper reaches of the Severn Estuary. The most important wintering site of White-fronted Geese in Britain. Set up by Sir Peter Scott and subject of a reinvestment program from the Millennium Commission. As well as the wild bird areas, it has the largest collection of captive wildfowl in the world. It has a large scientific department renowned for its work with Bewick's Swans. The wild bird feeds in the evenings during midwinter are a spectacle not to be missed.

Well signed from M5. Through Slimbridge village over canal and park in car park.Access
09.30 to 17.00 (when hides are shut). All year except Christmas Day. Free to WWT members, admission charge for non-members.Parking

Toilets, displays, visitor centre, restaurant, wheelchair access fairly good, numerous hides, guides, collection area, education centre, In Focus shop, public phones, research centre, duckery, car parks, well stocked bookshop.Key Areas / Routes
Dumbles overlooking the Severn from the Holden Tower.South Lake artificial lake with varied levels of water; heated hide. Rushy Pen best in winter with the wild bird feeds. South Finger reedbeds have often produced sights of Bitterns and waders. Kingfisher Hide so-called as Kingfishers nest most years in the artificial holes in the bank. Good views of the geese from these hides in winter. The feeder near the pond zone area nearly always has Water Rail feeding underneath it in winter.
