Site Details
Eight miles south of Bristol, north of the Mendip Hills, this 1,200-acre reservoir with mainly natural banks is the prime site in the region.

Herriott's Pool is at ST572581.Access
Public access is available at the south end where there is a nature reserve, from Herriott's Bridge on the A368 between Bath and Weston-super-Mare; from Heron's Green on the B3114 between West Harptree and Chew Stoke (check the wader pool); and from the two picnic sites on the north side of the reservoir. Access to the seven hides is by day-permit obtainable at the main picnic site or by annual permit obtainable from the Bristol Water Authority. The permit also gives access to nearby Blagdon Lake and Barrow Gurney Reservoirs which are worth a look, especially in autumn and winter.Parking
Parking within the lake enclosure is free at the moment, although pay-and-display (£1) at the picnic site and Woodford Lodge. Annual permit holders receive a free-parking sticker.Opening Times

Six hides (five of which are permit-only), nature trails and tea shop on the northeast side of the lake; also Woodford Lodge at Chew Stoke.Key Areas / Routes
Best birding tends to be at the south end of the lake, or Villice and Heron's Green Bays on the west side (from B3114). Herriott's Bridge (A368 causeway) is probably the best place to go.Site Photographs
