Directions

From Leek, travel just over 3 miles north along the A53 towards Buxton. Turn left at Upper Hulme up a narrow road, fork left before the pub. Stay on this road for about a mile until you reach the roadside parking at the foot of The Roaches.

Parking

Park at the base of the Roaches (free). At peak times start from Tittesworth Reservoir car park (free) and use the park and ride.

Opening Times

No restrictions.

Facilities

None; nearest toilets and refreshments are at Tittlesworth Reservoir.

Key Areas / Routes

The conifer woodland at the base of The Roaches should build up a list of common species, maybe Redstart. Red Grouse, Meadow Pipit and Raven, and maybe Hobby and Merlin can be encountered along the ridge walk. Roaches End could add Wheatear to your list. Lower altitude for finches, buntings and Skylark. Overhead for raptors and hirundines. Scan the reservoir for Snipe, Curlew and Lapwing.
