Directions
The beach is easily signposted from all main access roads into Whitley Bay. The cemetery is situated at the north end of the town by the turning for the lighthouse. Briardene is situated along the coast road about half a mile north of the town centre.Access
At high tide the entirety of the beach is often covered - access from the town to St Mary's Island must be gained by the dual-carriageway. No restrictions except cemetery.Parking
Car parking in Bournemouth Gardens car park, outside the cemetery or on the clifftop beside Briardene. Please do not drive onto the promenade.Facilities
There are numerous cafés and public toilets along the seafront, but no specialist birdwatching facilities.Key Areas / Routes
The Links run for 2 miles along the front, parallel with the beach. There are a few bushes at the Panama Gardens, and further north, which may hold vagrants at migration times. Briardene and the cemetery for migrants, beach and Links for waders and grassland birds. Try the Foxhunters playing fields for gulls.
