Description
Apologies for the poor quality of this image, but it was a long way off and the image is cropped very hard. At first, this soaring bird was "called" as a hen harrier because of its obvious white rump, but when I got binoculars onto it I dismissed it as a very pale buzzard and just clicked off a few record shots to convince the doubters in our party. Only on reviewing the shots did any doubts creep in. This bird has an "unusual" wing shape for a common buzzard and its plumage is striking, both the pale underside and buff bib, but also its clear white rump. It also appears to have feathered tarsi. I think I may know what it is, but it seems unlikely. Please view both shots and offer your opinions.
