Site Details
Urban reservoir with natural banks, marshland and wet woodland plus playing fields, scrub and woodland.
Designated a Local Nature Reserve and owned by London Boroughs of Brent and Barnet as well as British Waterways Board. Built in 1837 as a feeder for the Grand Union Canal.
Designated a SSSI for its breeding waterbirds: Common Terns, Great Crested Grebes, Tufted Duck, Gadwall and Shoveler as well as eight species of warbler.

Between Neasden and Hendon in northwest London.Nearest Tubes: Wembley Park then bus 182, 297 or 83 to Blackbird Hill; Hendon Central then walk or Hendon Thameslink then 10-minute walk.

Car park off Cool Oak Lane, NW9. Car Park also in Birchen Grove NW9.Facilities
Hide has wheelchair access, log book and display boards. Café in adjacent garden centre in Birchen Grove.Key Areas / Routes
The main reservoir has two hides in East Marsh; the northern arm has a hide and viewing platform overlooking the North Marsh; the adjacent area of scrub (a former rubbish dump), hedgerows and playing fields can be good for migrants.Site Photographs
