Four miles north of Hereford, on the A49 Leominster road and about a third of a mile past the turn to Wellington, turn off East onto minor road, after half-mile find site entrance at SO507483.Access
Visitors must book in at the Portacabin adjoining weighbridge. Follow signs to disused pits.Alternatively use the public footpath that runs through the site, accessed from the A49 just south of where the dual carriageway ends.
Parking
During working hours use visitors' car park inside entrance gates - locked at 5.00pm weekdays, noon Saturday. At weekends park on right side of entrance drive; do not block gates.Facilities
Hide overlooking main lake with log book.Key Areas / Routes
Silt lagoons hold winter Snipe, Water Rail and occasional Jack Snipe. Main lake for winter wildfowl and passage terns and waders. Scrape on west side of Wellington Brook attracts passage waders and breeding Reed Warblers. Regular birds of prey include Peregrine, Hobby, Barn and Short-eared Owls. Surrounding hedgerows for scrub warblers, Linnet, etc. New workings can be viewed from public footpath, holds gull roost September to December.Did you know that you can submit photographs to be included in this sites image gallery?
