Site Details
Overton Pools are owned by the Portals Group and used to settle paper waste. The Ponds consist of four separate shallow lagoons, with two causeways allowing access to the western banks. The area sits alongside, and is drained by, the River Test, although a filtering pumping station ensures that no contamination gets into the river. It is one of the best areas in the region for passage waders and wildfowl.

Directions
From the B3400 (Basingstoke to Andover road), turn into Station Road and follow this for approx. 0.5km. Access to Overton Pools is through an obvious gate on the lefthand side of the road, or through the main vehicular access 300m further on - park in Station Road, not on site.Access
It should first be noted that Overton Pools is technically private and access rights have not been given to the general public. Access is at your own risk and is to all intents and purposes officially trespass. Having said that, the site has long been frequented by local birders, in fact Portals employees encountered at the site have had no problems with birders' presence.Parking
Park only on Station Road, NOT on the site.Key Areas / Routes
From the south gate, walk west to view the ponds from the central causeway or from the north walk past the cottages to view the northern pond. The most southerly pond is generally difficult to view as it requires walking across the central causeway and south along the west bank, which will result in a lot of disturbance to the wildfowl, and is generally obscured by waterside vegetation.Did you know that you can submit photographs to be included in this sites image gallery?
