Directions
From the Greenstead Roundabout (TM019247)take the Colne Causeway, straight over the first two roundabouts then left on to Haven Road at the next roundabout. Continue along this road through the Industrial Estate, passed the sewage treatment works until you can go no further (about a mile). Buses from Colchester Town (#64, 74, 75, 77, 78 and 78A) all stop at Tescos on the Greenstead Roundabout. Buses from Colchester North train station (#78 and 78a). Hythe train station at the rear of Tescos. From Tescos follow directions above, ample footpath/cycleway.Access
Public right of way running along the west bank of the River Colne from the Hythe Quay through the Whitehall Industrail Estate to the village of Rowhedge. Current foot and mouth precautions should be followed (posted at the entrance to The Hythe from Whitehall Industrial Estate).Parking
Cars can be parked at the end of the Industrial Estate at TM023234.Facilities
None.Key Areas / Routes
At present FOLLOW PUBLIC FOOTPATH. Walk from the Industrial Estate past the 1st laggon then drop down to the bottom of the bank of the 2nd lagoon. The surface can be very uneven due to cattle foot-holes and tricky to navigate. Follow the line of the bank, go under the metal pipe at the far end (south end)and walk up the bank slowly, peaking over the top to avoid disturbance. This strategy often provides good views.Did you know that you can submit photographs to be included in this sites image gallery?
