Site Details

Nature Reserve pond with reedbed, 2 fishing ponds and immature woodland on site of former Williamthorpe colliery.Sewage farm adjacent.Water Rail usual in winter but difficult to see.

Directions

From M1 junc 29 take the A6175 west (signposted Clay Cross), then first right through Heath village and over a staggered crossroads. Park at the bottom of the hill. Buses from Chesterfield and Mansfield serve Holmewood.

Roadside parking at SK429672 next to pond 3. A path leads from here up to the ponds.

Facilities

Hide (locked). Good view of nature reserve pond from next to hide.

Key Areas / Routes

Nature Reserve pond and reedbed can be viewed from a path on the Eastern side of the pond.There is also a viewing point up some steps next to a new factory (near the sewage farm)
