The Elites come in two models, 8x43 and 10x43, and feature superior quality BaK-4 roof prisms with PC-3 phase coating for colour fidelity and clarity of image. The binoculars are O-ring sealed, 100 per cent waterproof, fogproof and dustproof and Rainguard-coated – handy for the UK-based birder.

The sturdy chassis is made of lightweight magnesium, and the centre bridge has been eliminated, giving a total weight of 651 g. The centre-locking eye dioptre lies next to the focus wheel. The lens and prisms are multi-coated with Bushnell’s exclusive XTR technology which, according to the company, delivers 90 per cent light transmission, the highest in its class. Field of view at 1,000 m is 124 m and close focus is a claimed 2.4 m. Eye relief is a generous 19.5 mm with twist-up eyecups.

Both models come with a strap and custom-moulded case. The 8x43 sells for around £999.
