An investigation has been launched after vandals tried to set a hide at a Scottish nature reserve alight in the days leading up to Christmas.

The incident at RSPB Lochwinnoch is believed to have taken place between 4 pm on Saturday 19th and 8.45 am on Sunday 20th. The alarm was raised after scorch marks and debris were discovered on the floorboards of a hide located a moderate distance away from the main building.

RSPB Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire was subject to attempted arson last weekend (Les Hull / geograph.org.uk).

Youths have reportedly been seen gathering at the site on a number of occasions recently. Inspector Allan O'Hare, head of community policing for Renfrewshire, said: "I would ask members of the public who use this facility to remain vigilant and immediately report anything suspicious they see taking place."

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call officers on 101.
