Stork towers to be built on Dorset farm

Four 'stork towers' are to be erected on a Dorset farm with the aim of attracting nesting White Storks.

The towers will be constructed on floodplain fields next to the River Stour at Bere Marsh Farm in Blandford, Dorset. Each structure will cost £1,500 and consist of a telegraph pole with a metal basket.

The Countryside Regeneration Trust (CRT) said that the species has been seen in the area – thought to have wandered from the population of reintroduced birds in Sussex – which prompted the decision to install the towers. CRT is looking for sponsors from local businesses to help fund the towers and aims to have them in place by spring 2024.
